President of the Republic of Srpska, Željka Cvijanović, met today with a delegation of the Returnees Association of the Una-Sana Canton to discuss the situation of the Serb people in the Federation of BiH. Special emphasis was laid at the meeting on the challenges faced by the returnee population in this canton.
During the talks, the President of the Republic expressed concern over the fact that returnees to the Una-Sana Canton are under great pressure because of the migrant crisis in BiH, and stressed that this further complicates the position of the returnee population to the area.
At the occasion, the President of Srpska expressed support to the activities of the Returnees Association and pointed out that it is an obligation of the Republic of Srpska institutions, in accordance with the Dayton Peace Agreement, to assist and care for Serbs living in the Federation of BiH.
During the meeting, President Cvijanović gave support to the initiative that returnees to the Una-Sana Canton be provided with medical care in the Republic of Srpska healthcare institutions, and that funds from Srpska’s budget be allocated for scholarships to students from returnee families living in the Federation of BiH.
