The President of the Republic of Srpska, Željka Cvijanović, attended today in Banja Luka the marking of May 9 – the Day of Victory over Fascism.
The President of the Republic of Srpska laid a wreath at the monument to the victims of fascism in Banja Luka at the Square of Fallen Fighters of the People’s Liberation War.
The President of the Republic said that the Serbian people should be proud of their past and the contribution they made in fighting the great evil – fascism.
At the celebration of Victory Day over Fascism, President Cvijanović pointed out that future generations must be taught the values and ideals for which many gave the ultimate sacrifice.
“Great sacrifices and great ideals deserve great respect, such must be our attitude towards those who gave their lives for freedom and contributed to the fight against fascism in the Second World War,” said the President of the Republic of Srpska.
President Cvijanović stressed that the Republic of Srpska assumed these values as heritage, which is why it is important that future generations respect the victims but also understand the intensity of the struggle and the ideals for which they fought.
“Of course, Europe also learned a great lesson in the Second World War, and that is why, after it ended, Europe established a new way of functioning and being united in its area. This is why we need to understand why Victory Day is also felt and marked as Europe Day,” the President of the Republic of Srpska noted.
