President of the Republic of Srpska visits Romania where she participates in the 8th European Summit of Regions and Cities

The President of the Republic of Srpska Željka Cvijanović is visiting Romania, where she is participating the 8th European Summit of Regions and Cities, held in Bucharest today and tomorrow.

During the first day of the Summit, the participants were addressed by Viorica Dancila the Prime Minister of Romania, the country that heads the European Union since January 1, the chairman of the EU Committee of the Regions Karl-Heinz Lambertz and the Mayor of Bucharest Gabriela Firea.

During the Summit, in separate meetings, the President Cvijanović met with the European Commission Special Representative for the Western Balkans Francois Schausberger and the President of the Italian region of Umbria Catiuscia Marini.

The President Cvijanović emphasized at the meeting with Mr. Schausberger that Srpska was committed to the European path and stressed that it was necessary to form a new convocation of the Council of Ministers in the shortest possible time, in order to create adequate conditions for effective communication between entities and levels of joint institutions, and to intensify the European integration process in line with the harmonised coordination system.

At the meeting with the President of the region of Umbria, establishment of economic cooperation between the Republic of Srpska and Umbria was discussed, as well as the exchange of experiences regarding accession to the EU funds.

After the meetings, the President Cvijanović gave an interview to the Romanian National Television.

Yesterday, the President Cvijanović met with the Chairman of the European Committee of the Regions Karl-Heinz Lambertz therefore discussing the current political and economic situation in the Republic of Srpska and BiH, and possible programmes and activities of the European Committee of the Regions in the context of BiH accession to the European Union.
