The President of the Republic of Srpska Željka Cvijanović, the Speaker of the National Assembly of the Republic of Srpska Nedeljko Čubrilović, the Prime Minister of the Republic of Srpska Radovan Višković and the Serb Member of the Presidency of BiH Milorad Dodik met today in Belgrade with the President of the Republic of Serbia Aleksandar Vučić.
The President of the Republic said that many political and economic topics were discussed at the meeting between the leadership of Srpska and the President Vučić, and that Serbia has been showing a very constructive role when it comes to the Republic of Srpska.
The President Cvijanović added that Serbia shows support to the Republic of Srpska in everything, both in the economic and financial aspect and in large projects, for which Srpska is especially interested.
The President of the Republic of Srpska added that there are also strategic communication projects such as the highway, then the airport in Trebinje, but also energy facilities such as “Buk Bijela”.
“These are strategic issues and it is always good to know that there is Serbia to participate in such projects together with the Republic of Srpska”, said the President of the Republic, recalling the projects at the municipal level.
The President of the Republic of Srpska said that throughout the years, thanks to the President Vučić and the institutions of Serbia, Srpska has the support and everything that is important for the development of local communities in Srpska, which delegate these projects, and which are approved by Serbia.
The President Cvijanović pointed out that political understanding is extremely important and that at this meeting the unity and unified position that the Republic of Srpska is a Dayton category and that it should function smoothly, it should live its administrative, economic and political life.
Also, the President of Srpska added, it was said at the meeting that the Bonn powers were something that was overcome and that this new situation / with the imposition of decisions / was something that caused a deep political crisis within BiH.
“We considered it useful and necessary to discuss this together with the officials of Serbia, and I say that there is a single position on that issue. We have gone beyond the framework of imposition, we believe that this is an outdated form”, said the President Cvijanović.
The President of the Republic of Srpska said that it is considered that Srpska should live in its full democratic capacity, which means that its institutions do all the work for which they are in charge according to the constitutions and laws, and that there is no place for any unelected foreigners.
“And especially questionable to those elected or those who have shown themselves, throughout the years since the war, mostly as lobbyists for Sarajevo politics, without awareness of the needs of such a multinational community, and with the intention of abolishing what is ethnic or national identity for the people who live there and with the intention of creating a civil state”, added the President of Srpska.
The President Cvijanović stated that there are no conditions or political consent for that, and that it is obviously clear to everyone in Srpska and Serbia, but it is not clear to political Sarajevo or certain parts of the international community.
The President of the Republic of Srpska stated that today’s talks with the President of Serbia Aleksandar Vučić with the leadership of the Republic of Srpska, as well as the second meeting with the parties of the position and opposition of Srpska and Serbia were very constructive, that unity was manifested on national issues and agreement was achieved that the position of Srpska and Serbia should be strengthened, and that the imposition of decisions is an outdated form.
As for the second meeting of the President Vučić with the parties of the position and opposition of Srpska and Serbia, the President Cvijanović assessed that there was a very constructive discussion on many topics, including this one, which imposed itself as the most problematic.
“It is precisely this imposition of the decisions of an outgoing High Representative, and the questionable manner in which this new incoming High Representative is taking office. Certainly, that is the dominant topic”, added the President of the Republic.
We generally also talked about what the political goals of Srpska and Serbia are, what are the things that should strengthen the position of Srpska and Serbia, said the President of Srpska.
“I think that there is a complete agreement, regardless of whether it is about the parties of the position or the opposition. I guess the time has come for us to understand that some national issues are above some usual daily political topics”, said the President of Srpska.
The President of the Republic of Srpska mentioned that the position and opposition are different parties, belong to different political spectrum and may be ideologically different, but what is a common thread is the care that must exist and be nurtured when it comes to the Republic of Srpska.
“I said that I believe that our citizens love when they see that we are gathered around such common goals. This will in no way diminish everything that is happening on a daily political level, but these are issues that deserve interest”, it was added by the President of the Republic.
The President of Srpska said that it was heard at the meeting that all political parties say that they do not accept any imposed solutions, that they do not want to participate and function in a society in which an unelected foreigner can come to impose a solution and can say that in that way should be acted upon.
“And you know that we have democratic institutions that, in fact, should do their job”, the President of the Republic added.
The President Cvijanović said that she was grateful to the President Vučić as the host, but also to all those who participated in this important meeting.
“I think that this is exactly the format we should continue to talk about, because we know that there shall certainly be many more challenges and a lot of unsettled issues and some legacy from the previous period when it comes to BiH, and of course Serbia has its own burden”, said the President of the Republic of Srpska.
