President of the Republic of Srpska meets with the Secretary of State of the Kingdom of Spain for the European Union Juan Gonzalez – Barba Pera

The President of the Republic of Srpska Željka Cvijanović met today in her office with the Secretary of State of the Kingdom of Spain for the European Union Juan Gonzales – Barba Pera, and discussed the current political challenges in the Republic of Srpska and BiH as well as the implications for the European integration process.

During the meeting, the need to improve the level of political dialogue in BiH and harmonised action of competent institutions, both in terms of the European integration and in the context of implementing important reforms in the field of rule of law and improving the socio – economic situation in both entities.

In a conversation with the Spanish Secretary of State for the European Union, the President Cvijanović pointed out that Republic of Srpska is committed to the European path, in accordance with the rules of the harmonised mechanism for coordinating European integration in BiH, which implies a full respect for the constitutional order and competencies.

At the meeting, 14 key priorities from the Opinion of the European Commission for BiH were discussed, as well as the need to take a realistic and pragmatic approach to meeting them, and the need for a balanced approach of official Brussels to the interests of all three constituent peoples in BiH.

On this occasion, the President Cvijanović expressed the full commitment of Srpska institutions to dialogue, preservation of peace and stability, emphasizing that numerous reform processes depend on consistent compliance with the Dayton Agreement and the BiH Constitution, as well as the full functionality of joint institutions in BiH.
