President of the Republic of Srpska meets with the President of the European Committee of the Regions in Bucharest

The President of the Republic of Srpska Željka Cvijanović is visiting Romania where she participates in the European Summit of Regions and Cities, held in Bucharest on March 14 and 15, 2019.

Before the Summit, the President of the Republic of Srpska met with the President of the European Committee of the Regions Karl-Heinz Lambertz with whom she discussed the current political and economic situation in the Republic of Srpska and BiH as well as possible programmes and activities of the European Committee of the Regions in the context of BiH accession to the European Union.

On this occasion, the President Cvijanović expressed the commitment of the Republic of Srpska institutions to the European path, with full respect for the Dayton Agreement and the constitutional competences of all levels of government in BiH, and stressed that all issues related to the European integration process must be addressed with respect to the principles and rules of the harmonised coordination system.

At the meeting with Lambertz, the President of the Republic of Srpska requested the support from the European Committee of the Regions in the process of the European integration of the Republic of Srpska and BiH.

The 8th European Summit of Regions and Cities, which is organised every two years, shall bring together more than 1,000 politicians and experts from various parts of the entire Europe, who will discuss the future of the European Union, as well as the role of local and regional authorities in the process of decision making.
