President of the Republic of Srpska meets with the President of Northern Macedonia

The President of the Republic of Srpska Željka Cvijanović met today in Skopje with the President of Northern Macedonia Stevo Pendarovski.

The President of the Republic of Srpska stated that today’s meeting with the President of Northern Macedonia was in the spirit of further improvement of friendly relations between Srpska and Northern Macedonia.

The President Cvijanović said that there are many areas on the agenda in which cooperation should be improved, and that, as she stated, she primarily meant closer connections in the economic sense.

“We think that we will have a better connection in infrastructural connections in the future as well. The issue of the status of certain communities, both Serbs in Northern Macedonia and Macedonians in Serbia and the Republic of Srpska, was also on the agenda”, it was pointed out by the President of the Republic.

The President of the Republic of Srpska added that the meeting was constructive and that Srpska and Northern Macedonia have no open issues that would burden them.

The President of Srpska stated that she was pleased with the openness and commitment of Northern Macedonia towards the “Open Balkans” initiative, and that the Republic of Srpska sees a great development opportunity in that regard.

“We do not see that this should be a hindrance to anyone”, said the President Cvijanović.

The President of the Republic of Srpska added that at the meeting with the President of Northern Macedonia, she reiterated that, unfortunately, there is no complete agreement in BiH on that issue.

“I want to hope that in time we will understand that it is really important, that it is not a substitute formula for the EU, which will certainly be waited for a long time when it comes to this region. We should use our development chances and opportunities, which will be increased by combining our capacities and potentials”, stated the President Cvijanović and pointed out all other advantages.

“This was a good opportunity to acquaint the President of Northern Macedonia about the situation in our country, what are the positions of the Republic of Srpska, but also to clarify certain processes that are in progress within BiH”, said the President of Srpska.

The President of the Republic of Srpska pointed out that the meeting was good and useful, in the function of strengthening mutual relations in the future.

“We are certainly at the disposal of an idea that would imply building relationships to better understand each other. We are directed at each other, we want to renew certain economic ties within the region, within which we have previously functioned successfully, but also to upgrade our political understanding”, said the President of the Republic.
