President of the Republic of Srpska meets with the Minister of Health and Social Welfare of the Republic of Srpska Alen Šeranić and a representative of the Association of Citizens “Viktorija”

The President of the Republic of Srpska Željka Cvijanović met today in her office with the Republic of Srpska Minister of Health and Social Welfare Alen Šeranić and a representative of the Association of Citizens “Viktorija” Sanja Stanić.

The improvement of the systemic response to addiction diseases at the Republic of Srpska level through the establishment of a therapeutic community and the work of a counseling centre with a population of psychoactive substance addicts were discussed at the meeting.

Minister Šeranić and representative of AC “Viktorija” and a member of the Commission for Combating Narcotic Drugs Abuse Sanja Stanić briefed the President Cvijanović about the goals of the project “Systemic Response to Addiction Diseases”, which will be implemented in Banja Luka and other cities of the Republic of Srpska over the following 11 months.

The President Cvijanović emphasized that the competent institutions, institutes and organisations of the Republic of Srpska take a very responsible and systematic approach to the problem of drug addiction, and in that sense supports all activities aimed at raising awareness about the harmfulness of narcotic drug abuse and suppressing this negative phenomenon.

The President of the Republic assessed that, in addition to practical assistance and advice in the field of preventive and therapeutic work in relation to drug addiction, the entire social community should show understanding and sensitivity to this population and their families.
