The President of the Republic of Srpska Željka Cvijanović met today at the Pentagon with the US Deputy Assistant Secretary of Defense Laura Cooper.
The current political and security issues in the Republic of Srpska and BiH, as well as the security challenges facing the countries of the region were discussed at the meeting.
On this occasion, the President Cvijanović emphasized the strong commitment of the institutions of Srpska to the preservation of peace and stability and pointed out that the Republic of Srpska is determined to defend the Dayton Agreement and to fully protect its constitutional competencies.
In that context, the President of Srpska pointed out that she appreciated the current cooperation with the United States in the field of security, expressing confidence that it would be continued in the future, which the interlocutors confirmed and concluded that there is room for civil-military cooperation, especially in civil protection and cyber security field.
The President emphasized that the institutions of the Republic of Srpska expect a balanced approach of all international factors when it comes to BiH and expressed concern over the tendency to privatise joint institutions and functions in those institutions by one political party and one constituent people, to the detriment of the other two constituent peoples.
On this occasion, the President of the Republic of Srpska informed the Deputy Assistant Secretary of Defense of the United States that the Republic of Srpska is committed to cooperating with everyone, in accordance with its constitutional and legal solutions and in accordance with the expressed will and commitment of its citizens.
