Tonight, the President of the Republic of Srpska Željka Cvijanović attended the solemn academy on the occasion of the Day of the Army of the Republic of Srpska and 30 years since its founding.

The President of the Republic pointed out that the formation of the Army of the Republic of Srpska was a historic moment that required gathering and unity, and that it was certainly one of the most important moments in the process of self-defense of the people who experienced great temptations and sufferings in previous wars.

“It was necessary to make this gathering happen and to organise it. The decision was difficult but necessary. Thus, then we knew, and we know today, that we had no choice, not even an alternative”, said the President of Srpska.

The President of the Republic emphasized that the Army of the Republic of Srpska arose from the obligation not to allow mass suffering and new genocides to be repeated in this area.

“We reacted last, because we wanted peace, but not a peaceful execution at the execution sites and death camps. The Army of the Republic of Srpska was a reflection of the will of our people to survive and preserve their centuries-old hearths. It originated from the people and was made up of ordinary people who, defending the borders of the Republic of Srpska, defended their families, their houses and fields, churches and graves”, said the President Cvijanović.

The President of the Republic emphasized that the strength of the Army of the Republic of Srpska were not modern tanks, planes, cannons and howitzers, but fearless fighters who knew well what was behind the front line and what kind of sanctuary they were defending.

The President Cvijanović pointed out that the Army of the Republic of Srpska honorably fulfilled its task, saved the population and defended the borders of our Republic.

“For that purpose, a high price was paid in the Defense and Patriotic War. Many left their health, parts of their bodies on the fronts, and more than 23,000 of them the most valuable thing they had – their lives. Along with them, more than 6,000 civilians were killed. We owe them eternal remembrance and eternal gratitude. Neither because of them, nor because of us, nor because of the generations to come, we have no right to give up the fight for a better and more successful Republic of Srpska. We have no right to give in to attacks and pressure, to blackmail and sanctions”, it was pointed out by the President of Srpska.

The President Cvijanović said that the Republic of Srpska will fight for its constitutional rights, for every single word and every letter of the Dayton Agreement.

“That is the way to further institutional strengthening and economic development of the Republic of Srpska. The path of peace, not the path of conflict. The path to a better and secure future, in which we will never forget on whose foundations our freedom and our Republic rest. May they rest in peace!”, it was emphasized by the President of Srpska.

The President of the Republic of Srpska congratulated all the fighters of the Army of the Republic of Srpska, members of the Third Infantry (Republic of Srpska) Regiment, as well as the citizens of the Republic of Srpska on the Day of the Army of the Republic of Srpska, wishing them to remember with pride of all what was created.
