The President of the Republic of Srpska Željka Cvijanović attended today in Banja Luka the signing of a joint statement on the implementation of the HES “Gornja Drina” Project.

The implementation of this project envisages the construction of three hydropower plants in the upper basin of the Drina River – Buk Bijela, Foča and Paunci.

The President of the Republic of Srpska said that it is extremely important that there is a political understanding between Srpska and Serbia and good will for the implementation of strategic projects.

“This is a great day for us in the Republic of Srpska. If the cooperation between Srpska and Serbia in previous years was great, I can say that we are now entering a completely different dimension, which is reflected in the fact that we are launching three major strategic projects”, said the President Cvijanović.

The President of the Republic pointed out that there is a commitment to continue cooperation at a lower level, and it would refer to the projects that are not strategic, but are important for the development of local communities.

“We are grateful to the Prime Ministers of Srpska and Serbia and the President of Serbia, Aleksandar Vučić, because the story about big strategic projects has been started.

We will have a new dimension of cooperation, because if you have a highway connecting Banja Luka and Belgrade, a plan to build an airport in Trebinje and a joint project to build Buk Bijela, then that implies something completely new, because we want to take a safe step into the future”, she added.

According to the President Cvijanović, the Republic of Srpska is looking forward to all of Serbia’s successes.

“We are looking at the achievements in Serbia and we are happy with the good economic situation and political stability of this country, with all that we manage to do together”, said the President Cvijanović.

The President of Srpska stressed that the vision of the development of the Republic of Srpska and Serbia is important, but also the awareness of the citizens about the implementation of joint projects.

“For years, the Republic of Srpska has been taking major steps in development, although it has been pressured by political and economic challenges. We are aware of our capacities and it is important that we have Serbia that supports our further development”, it was concluded by the President Cvijanović.

The joint statement on the implementation of the HES “Gornja Drina” Project was signed by the Prime Ministers of the Republic of Srpska and the Republic of Serbia Radovan Višković and Ana Brnabić, and the signing of the joint statement was attended by the President of the Republic of Srpska Željka Cvijanović, as well as the Serb Member of the BiH Presidency Milorad Dodik, ministers in the Government of Srpska and the Ambassador of Serbia to BiH Aleksandar Đorđević.
