President of the Republic of Srpska presented with the Charter of Honorary Citizen of Prijedor

The President of the Republic of Srpska Željka Cvijanović attended today the solemn academy on the occasion of the Day of the City of Prijedor, at which the Mayor of Prijedor Dalibor Pavlović presented her with the Charter of Honorary Citizen.

The President of the Republic of Srpska pointed out that May 16 is an important day for this city and its inhabitants, as well as for all those who love and gladly visit this capital of Podkozara.

The President of the Republic stated that on this day we remember the fighters of the First and Second Krajina Detachment, as well as the Banija Brigade, who liberated Prijedor exactly 79 years ago for the first time in the Second World War.

“While almost the whole of Europe writhed under the Nazi boot, Prijedor and its surroundings were one of the largest free territories in the occupied part of the old continent in those days”, said the President Cvijanović.

The President of the Republic of Srpska pointed out that Prijedor, although the insurgent rule lasted in 1942, and the road to the final liberation was paved with great suffering of the population, has always been and remains synonymous with freedom and heroism since no occupier in this area could sleep peacefully.

“Specifically in respect for this city, its glorious history, the rebellious character of the local people, it is difficult for me to express pride, happiness in words, but also great gratitude for the huge recognition you gave me today”, said the President Cvijanović.

The President of the Republic of Srpska added that as of today, she is a proud woman from Prijedor, who no longer comes here only for working visits, but, simply said, comes here to be with neighbors and friends”.

“Even before this recognition, it was, and now it will be even more expressed”, said the President of the Republic.

The President of the Republic of Srpska emphasized that the Charter of Honorary Citizen represents much more than personal recognition – a kind of seal for everything that the institutions of Srpska in the area of Prijedor have done in the previous period, but also the commitment to continue even stronger in that direction.

“I am glad since the communication between the local and republic authorities has significantly improved and since today in the City Administration we have good interlocutors for all projects that are important for Prijedor and all the citizens of Prijedor, my fellow citizens. You have shown a great honor to me and it is my obligation to remember it well and to return it, as we have done together so far”, said the President Cvijanović.
