Marking April 4 – the Day of the Police of the Republic of Srpska

The President of the Republic of Srpska Milorad Dodik attended today in Banja Luka the marking of April 4 – Police Day of the Republic of Srpska.

At the beginning of marking the Republic of Srpska Police Day, the Commander of the Honorary Unit of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Republic of Srpska Vitomir Petričević handed over the report to the President of the Republic Milorad Dodik.

After the submission of the report, a memorial service was held and wreaths were laid at the Central Memorial for the 782 members of the Ministry of the Interior of the Republic of Srpska who died in the Defensive – Patriotic War.

The President of the Republic also attended the central celebration of the Republic of Srpska Police Day in Zalužani.

On this occasion, the President Dodik congratulated the Day of the Police of Srpska – April 4 and said that he is grateful for everything that the local “blue uniforms” have done in terms of preserving peace, security and the constitutional order of the Republic of Srpska.

“The police are an integral part of this nation and they are trusted”, it was emphasized by the President of the Republic and added that the Police of the Republic of Srpska has a national character, and that it was created to keep peace, not to make war.

“But our Police are there to ensure the territorial sovereignty of the Republic of Srpska against any attempts to threaten it. Therefore, we are preparing for peace, and we want a strong police force that acts in accordance with the law and should serve the people”, said the President of Srpska.

In addition to the need to improve the material condition and equipment, the Police must be given a more significant role in social and legal affairs, said the President of Srpska and emphasized that this role cannot be humiliated by the prosecution.

The President Dodik pointed out that work will be carried out on to amend the law that will ensure this.

“Not that the Police are abusing their powers, but that they should be more in the function of fighting crime. Also, not to be on the side of indecisive or bad prosecutors, among whom there are those who do nothing”, said the President of the Republic.

The President of Srpska said that institutional and material support to the Police will be continued, with the intention that it will be as well trained and equipped as possible in order to preserve stability and peace in these areas.

“Today, Srpska is one of the most stable territorial units in this area in terms of security. General crime has been significantly suppressed in the Republic of Srpska, there are no organised gangs, and if they appear, they will be eliminated”, said the President Dodik.

The President of the Republic of Srpska said that he is proud since the cities of the Republic of Srpska are increasingly safe after the Republic and its authorities had the strength to deal with the aforementioned criminal gangs.

“There is no such thing today. There are individual criminals or small groups, but they are quickly eliminated”, said the President of Srpska.

The President Dodik stated that the Republic of Srpska has shown the ability to equip, train and organise the Police in such a way that they are not a threat to anyone.

“Srpska meets our expectations that it can fulfill its obligations stipulated by the law”, said the President of the Republic and added that he is proud that the Police is made up of members of other nations.
