THE
ORDERS AND DECORATIONS OF THE REPUBLIC OF SRPSKA

|
The social changes and historical events in the
Socialist Federation of the Republic of Yugoslavia in the beginning
of the last century conditioned significant changes, among which
also the establishment of the Republic of Srpska which introduced
its system of orders and decorations in the year 1993. The Statute
has defined that the orders and decorations are the public state
recognition awarded to the individuals and institutions for the
extraordinary merits toward the state, medals to the individuals
or collectives for one-time extraordinary merits and deeds which
are by its nature unrepeatable and unique, or rather for a well
performed duty or services, or the participation in a specific event.

Order
of the Republic of Srpska is the highest state decoration
presented either as the badge on chain with breast star or as the
ribbon with breast star. The order on chain is awarded to heads of
foreign states, the most distinguished individuals for their extraordinary
work and merits and institutions who have significantly contributed
to the establishing of the Republic of Srpska. The order on the ribbon
is awarded to the distinguished individuals for the extraordinary
merits in the development of the international cooperation, and their
contribution to the state. |

Order of Nemanjići
is the subsequent order by hierarchy and is presented in a single
class. It is worn around the neck and it has its breast star. The
order is awarded to the individuals and members of the armed forces
of the Republic of Srpska for their extraordinary military merits
in the armed conflict. It could be exceptionally awarded to civilians
for their special contribution in organizing and running the defense
of the Serb people and the state. |

Order of
the Star of Karađorđe of the Republic of Srpska is a military
decoration awarded in three classes. The Order is awarded for the
extraordinary merits in commanding and leading the armed forces units
of the Republic of Srpska during armed conflict. It could be exceptionally
awarded in peace for the extraordinary merits in leading and organizing
the armed forces. |

Order
of Miloš Obilić is presented in one class and awarded to
members of the armed forces of the Republic of Srpska regardless of
the rank, for a witnessed courage in the fight or for the heroic accomplishments.
In peace, the Order is awarded only on exceptional occasions. |

Order
of Njegoš is presented in three classes and awarded to individuals,
companies, institutions and other organizations for extraordinary
accomplishments in work and merits in the fields of economy, science,
culture, spiritual development and general progress of the Republic
of Srpska. |

Order
of the Cross of Charity is presented in one class and awarded
to the collectives and individuals for the extraordinary sacrifices,
courage and nursing the wounded and ill during the fight. In peace,
it could be awarded only on exceptional occasions. |

Medal
of Petar Mrkonjić is a military decoration with a single
class. It is awarded to the armed forces units of the Republic of
Srpska during significant accomplishments in battle. Only exceptionally,
at the proposal of the unit, it could be awarded to the commander
in charge. |

Medal
of Merits for the People is presented in a single class and
awarded for merits demonstrated in the battle against the enemy, for
liberation of the country and contribution in construction and development
of the Republic of Srpska. In peace, it is awarded to the individuals,
institutions and other organizations for contribution in the development
and progress of the country. |

Medal for
Bravery is a military decoration presented in two classes
– gold and silver, and it is awarded for one or more courageous deeds.
It is awarded to smaller units and the individuals for deeds of collective
bravery. |
 |
Medal
for Military Merits is presented in a single class and awarded
to the members of the armed forces of the Republic of Srpska for their
enthusiasm in accomplishments of tasks or their exemplary qualities
in military and leadership. The Order could be awarded to civilians
for their exemplary work and significant contribution for the state.

Medal
for Military Virtue is presented in a single class and awarded
to the members of the armed forces of the Republic of Srpska for their
extraordinary knowledge and performance of the army duties and their
exemplary behavior. |
