The President of the Republic of Srpska Željka Cvijanović addressed at the solemn reception tonight in Belgrade on the occasion of the Day of the Republic of Srpska and 28 years since the adoption of the first Constitution of the Republic of Srpska.
The President of the Republic of Srpska Željka Cvijanović pointed out that in the last 28 years since the adoption of the first Constitution of Srpska, there had been many temptations, but also beautiful things, many challenges and many achieved results, and that what had not changed was the awareness of the importance of its existence and determination to further develop and strengthen the Republic of Srpska.
“It is my pleasure and honor to be here in Belgrade tonight. Now traditionally, we are marking two extremely important dates organised by the Representative Office of the Republic of Srpska in Serbia – January 9, 1992, the Day of the Republic of Srpska and February 28, 1992, the day when the Republic received its first Constitution”, said the President of the Republic.
The President of the Republic stressed that in a country that was supposed to be a common one, the Republic of Srpska is facing numerous problems on a daily basis.
“BiH is persistently demonstrating deficits in a number of fields – it is a state without a basic internal agreement, and international interventionism has made it stumble more than it is capable to achieve any success. We do not want to bear any responsibility or a political burden because someone else has made it work on force, and not based on laws and constitution, based on threats instead of agreement and dialogue”, said the President Cvijanović.
The President of the Republic stated that it was not a new situation that Srpska and its symbols and powers were under constant attacks by those who had previously imposed a false narrative about the war and suffering, and later that Srpska was allegedly guilty of not implementing BiH as a functional country.
The President of Srpska stated that the policy of double standards is widespread throughout the region and that is why the region has been in disarray.
“We have a responsibility to the expectations of our citizens, and their expectations are clear – to preserve the competences of the Republic, to preserve peace and stability, to develop the Republic and to create an environment for the better life of our citizens. The Republic of Srpska is a guarantee of our survival, but also of our security, development and prosperity. That is why we are obliged to defend our dignity, our institutions, territory and competences that belong to us under the Dayton Agreement. We do not want anything that belongs to someone else, but we will not allow ourselves to be deprived of what is ours”, said the President Cvijanović.
Unfortunately, said the President of the Republic, many domestic and foreign political actors in BiH and beyond, are trying to deny rights guaranteed to the Republic of Srpska by the Constitution.
“Their attempts do not have any logical, moral and legal grounds, so it sometimes seems to us that BiH exists in a parallel reality in which reason and truth are turned upside down. Thus, in BiH today, it is possible for those who consistently respect the letter of the Constitution and the Dayton Agreement to be sanctioned and publicly condemned for anti-Dayton activities, and that those who brutally violate the Constitution are proclaimed as defenders of the rule of law as the highest legal and political act”, said the President of the Republic.
The President of the Republic of Srpska stressed that under the imposed imagination it is even possible for Bosniak politicians to swear to a sovereign and independent BiH, while at the same time they are urging the High Representative and ambassadors to constantly interfere in its internal affairs and to intervene at the expense of one, and often, of two constituent peoples.
“On the other hand, we have the Constitutional Court of Bosnia and Herzegovina, which rules without legal grounds and where three foreign judges sit who, in practice, represent the voting machinery for achieving Bosniak political goals”, said the President of Srpska.
Under such circumstances, emphasized the President of the Republic, the Republic of Srpska is forced to fight for its integrity and constitutional position with all available legal and political means.
“We want peace, cooperation and dialogue with everyone in BiH, but we will give a strong and decisive institutional response to every attack on the Republic of Srpska. Although, the ambient imposed on us is not stimulating, in the previous period we have managed to maintain full political, institutional and financial stability.
We have built numerous roads, bridges, hospitals, schools, kindergartens, cultural centres, as well as many other objects throughout the Republic of Srpska, alone or with the assistance of Serbia. Our intention is to build even more and develop the Republic of Srpska in the coming period, while the lasting priorities of the Republican institutions remain the continuation of the policy of increasing salaries and pensions, as well as generating favorable conditions for the creation of new jobs in all parts of Srpska”, said the President Cvijanović.
The President of the Republic stressed that Serbia is the only support that the Republic of Srpska has in the path of development and prosperity.
“Therefore, I am grateful to the state leadership headed by the President Vučić, for the support and concrete projects implemented with the assistance of Serbia in the Republic of Srpska. We are firmly committed to nurturing our brotherly and unbreakable ties with Serbia and to further strengthen cooperation, which, we can say, is more intense today than it has ever been in the past”, said the President of the Republic.
After all, said the President of the Republic, the very fact that we are together in the heart of Belgrade tonight, for the two such important dates for the Republic of Srpska, speaks enough that relations between Srpska and Serbia have exceeded the formal ones defined by the Special Parallel Relations Agreement.
“On this behalf, I would like to thank everyone for their presence, with the desire that the Republic of Srpska and Serbia, just like our mutual relations, are stronger, more successful and more developed each year. Long live the Republic of Srpska! Long live Serbia!”, said the President of the Republic of Srpska Željka Cvijanović.
